Novice MS-Office Classes
A novice class is a beginner type course for Windows
98/2000/XP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Outlook,
or the Internet. We already have outlines built in these
areas.
Our novice sequence for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access is
normally 9 hours. So, for the entire Word sequence it would
be modules Word I, Word II, and Word III for a total of 9 hours. Our introductory
Windows and Internet classes are of shorter length. You
decide on what modules your staff needs. We'd be glad to
discuss your needs at your convenience.
Our fee for a half day of novice training for up to 10 clients
is $550.
Our fee for a full day of novice training for up to 10 clients
is $850.
We provide the training consultant and outlines for copying.
You provide the facility and computers. You can purchase
computer books for your staff using our publisher discounts.
Refresher MS-Office Classes
What is a refresher class? Sometimes if you ask your
staff if they know Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access they'll say
something like: "I know it. I'm not an expert.
But I know enough to use it." People become comfortable with
their computer skills and sometimes a bit rusty with their skills.
Our refresher courses are 9 hours of material taught in 6 hours
with more questions asked of the clients. For example, we
will take our novice modules Excel I, II, and III and teach them
in one day. This refresher training may be what it takes to
re-excite your staff about computers again and eliminate their
rusty computer skills.
As a manager, if you're sensing that your staff's computer
skills aren't what they need to be, you could try a refresher
class on them for one day. They will come away with better
software skills and hopefully improved productivity on the job.
Our refresher course fees are the same as our novice fees.
A half day of refresher training for up to 10 clients is $550.
A full day of refresher training for up to 10 clients is $850.
Advanced MS-Office Classes
We offer our advanced MS-Office training in the areas of Word
and Excel. We have never had an advanced training demand for
PowerPoint and the advanced training for Access we just call
Access consulting for a client.
Does your staff need advanced Word training? The answer
becomes yes when your staff begins building longer, complex
documents with tables of contents, indexes, and extensive
footnoting. If your staff needs to understand technical
writing and Word for training manuals and documentation then they
may need us also.
Perhaps the greatest demand for advanced MS-Office training is
in the area of Excel training. We believe that 20% of all
Excel spreadsheets either have errors or are being used
inefficiently. You hope that your financial analysts,
budgeting personnel, and new project specialists know Excel at an
expert level. Your company's future may depend on the
accuracy of your Excel spreadsheets.
Would you like to take a more advanced Excel quiz to see what
we mean when we talk about advanced Excel concepts? Here's
the advanced Excel quiz if you would like to look at it.
A local half day of advanced training for up to 10 clients
is $1000.
A local full day of advanced training for up to 10 clients is
$1800.
Private Training
TechSpectrum offers executive training. Top
executives prefer private, directed training that meets their
schedule, and their location. The session is totally
private. The executive gets answers to his/her specific
questions. The class takes place when and where the client wants
training.
The training consultants we use for this
must be highly skilled with all of Microsoft Office products.
And, they must be capable of working with clients at high
levels. Finally, they need to be enthusiastic coaches. Our
favorite private training assignment was the hospital that asked
us to teach their doctors and managers every Tuesday for 2
years. Many good ideas and learning took place on those
Tuesdays. It's tough enough getting some managers to use
email. Can you imagine what a company can do when the
managers lead by example with their knowledge and use of
software? A 2 hour session is $225. Within reason we
will travel to your office or home and deliver training when you
want it done. We hope you will call to arrange an
appointment.
Custom Training
TechSpectrum does custom training. Sometimes a client asks
us to learn their custom software, to possibly create a training
manual for the software, and then to train staff in the use of
this software. We have done this in health care. Health
care professionals use software named medical informatics.
We have done training at two hospitals along these lines.
One client purchased software and wanted us to train it to
staff. Another client developed their own software and
asked us to train staff. TechSpectrum has done this type of
custom software training in healthcare, manufacturing, and the
stock market. Since these projects are short term in
nature it often makes sense for managers to outsource these
projects rather than assign full-time staff.
Our fees vary for these projects because we are talking
different skills: learning new software, documenting new
software for a company, and training new software. But
in most cases for these short to medium projects, outsourcing is
more attractive than using staff members.
Advanced Niche Technology Training
This is a growing part of our business that's been exciting.
Here's an example. One company in Chicago needed JCL (Job
Control Language) training for their computer operations staff.
They telephoned TechSpectrum because they had used us in the
past for MS-Office training. TechSpectrum found an
author/expert on the topic of JCL. The JCL author/expert
came in and taught wonderfully. Now the author/expert is
looking forward to Chicago and Los Angeles training assignments.
Does your company or local user group need an author/expert to
train an advanced niche technology topic? Why not contact
us. We'll find one for you.
Fees vary based upon market demand.
Class development fees if requested.
This is a delicate topic. Our standard course offerings
are Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and the Internet.
If you want one standard topic taught per class, there is no class
development. Customization? If you want us to
teach your staff how to use Excel and your annual departmental
budget files, that's a custom request. The fee for
customizations is $100 per hour. Special projects?
Do you have some custom software that needs to be taught to your
staff? We will build a training outline and deliver the
course to your staff. The fee for special project
customizations is $100 per hour. Niche training?
We can train your staff to become certified experts
in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Those are advanced
courses. Or, perhaps you want training in MS Project,
or Goldmine, or ACT. Or, as one client
requested, perhaps you want a class taught in JCL (Job
Control Language). We provide or locate specialty trainers
in those areas. The fee is based on market demand.
Traveling assignments? We are glad for the opportunity to
travel and to train beyond Chicago, IL. Just email
info@techspectrum.com
or phone
773-685-8746
so we can discuss your computer training opportunity and to
negotiate a special solution and fee.
